Survey Options

K12 Climate Surveys were designed in collaboration with public school districts using thoroughly tested items and scales. There are seven separate surveys, each covering similar topics so your school or district can see connections or patterns between groups of adults and/or students.

The following separate surveys are available to your district - in online or paper-and-pencil format:

  • 2nd - 3rd grade Student Survey
  • 4th - 5th grade Student Survey
  • Middle School Student Survey
  • High School Student Survey
  • Parent Survey
  • Teacher and Paraprofessional Survey
  • Administrator Survey

Each survey measures the following:

  • Bullying, fighting, and perceived victimization
  • Positive and negative social behaviors at school
  • Places where students feel fearful
  • Attitudes about differences and diversity
  • Perceptions of peers, teachers, administrators with regard to student behavior
  • Demographics - age, gender, race/ethnicity, language, grade
  • Plus much more

Data Collection and Tabulation

Every participating district has the option to complete the surveys online or with paper and pencil. Online survey data are tabulated in-house and usually take approximately 7-10 business days to complete. Paper and pencil survey data are sent to the survey lab of Prof. Dorothy Espelage, Ph.D., nationally recognized bullying researcher, at the University of Illinois for tabulating. Please allow at least 2-6 weeks to receive results for paper-and pencil surveys.

Reports are organized by survey type. For each item and scale, your district's data is compared to the aggregate data of approximately 75,000 students and adults in over 50 school districts nationwide.

K12 Associates will also conduct longitudinal studies over multiple school years to track school progress, cross tabulation, advanced statistical analysis, and custom reporting for an additional fee.

Report Design

A school district's report is organized by the data collected in each school.  This could include parents, teachers, and students.  Each report summarizes your school's responses to each item on the survey.  Click on this sample report for 4th-5th graders to see how reports are designed.  We highly recommend looking at data over a periond of years to assess progress on your prevention or intervention strategies.  Logitudinal reports can be in either table form or in control line charts.

Survey reports are critical to successfull climate change.  Anonymous feedback - via survey - from students is the best gauge of your school climate.  For example, one chart shows negative behaviors that kids report at school.  Tracking these behaviors over time is a direct indicator of success (or a need for more work).

Ordering and Pricing

Ordering K12 Climate Surveys is easy.  Simply go to the order form and select the options you're interested in.  Prices are listed by each survey option.

Once you submit your order you will receive a survey link that can be placed on your school website.  This link will provide electronic access to your survey choices.  Each link comes with easy-to-understand instructions for administering the surveys online.

After your students, staff, or parents have completed the survey, you will be emailed a summary report covering all items and scales on the survey.  Please allow at least 3 weeks for the final reports.

If your school is not interested in conducting the surveys online, there are paper-and-pencil versions of the survey available as well.  In this case, a master copy of each survey is mailed to your school, allowing you to make as many copies as needed.   The completed surveys are then sent to the survey lab of Prof. Dorothy Espelage at the University of Illinois for processing.  Reports are provided 2 months after the surveys are received in the survey lab.
